O.K. a Gas can with a cam lock spout,as on european made cans and USMC cans? And the flexible nozzle,is it U.S. made?I had never heard of such a can before.

Yes a gas can, the flexible spout did not come with the can but the one I had fits it. The spout is a repop I think, but it fits the other gas cans and looks identical to the U.S. made ones. The markings on the can are: "QMC" on one side bottom, "USA" opposite bottom, "G" on both sides near top, " Monarch, U.S. , G, 43, I.C.C. 5L" on the top under handles. And "McCord" across the cam lock lid.

rare can
Hi Dean
Is the spout on your 43 can round with 2 in. pipe threads inside the spout? If so you have a very rare can that is like one I also have. These were the cans that was tested in 43 and 44 and approved for production but never went into production as it was thought there were lots of cans already made.

Dean's Pictures
Thank you Dean for mailing the pictures.I have never seen anythink like that.I was aware, and even posted about the issue, that more then one manufacturer did,in 43 at least, stamp all the lettering of Gas cans on top, just as on the water cans we are familiar with. But they retained the usual screw lid, four eared.Your can is unusual, and peculiar after all the fuss they made on the new(in 42) camlocked 2" spout for water avoiding confusion with gas cans! Maybe that explain why they did not catch on,and why the Marines wanted the European spout, and not the 2" one.
