SRC-299 on DUKWs in Sicily

Hello folks
A friend of mine is trying to identify the radio shelter installed on this camo DUKW on the beach in Gela in 1943.

It, definitely, is not a SRC-399 in a kosher HO-17 shelter.
I have reasons to believe that this could be one of the dozen "radio DUKW" conversions to provide some long haul radio capacity to the units on the shore before consolidating the beachhead.
Who can shed some light on this obscure matter???
thanks
Marcello
