pvtjarheads radio repair guy passed away a month ago and I don't know if he's found anyone to replace Chuck.

I recall they are a nightmare to work on and I haven't been into one in 30 years.

Yes, they are! Remember they're old technology and the manuals are written for someone that knows radio repair, not the novice. There's lot's of inaccuracies in them the will lead you down a rabbithole. That and the silly things weigh about 62 pounds so they're expensive to ship! Double whammy and probably why the hundreds of techs that the military trained don't want anything to do with them!

Re: RT524 needs work
ask Robert WA6CAB on the radio subforum.....he might know of someone that has the knowledge and interest to take on a project RT524. I guess the info that Pvt Jarhead's tech is RIP that working R442s and RT524 are now more valuable than last year!
You might also try a local ham radio forum in your area - sometimes a ham radio guy with technical skills makes a modest part-time income fixing boat anchors. I had such a contact here in Albuq until he got sick and quit the work.....you'll need to provide a complete set of manuals to that person.
