French military transceiver TRVP-213 (TRPP13 - ER-95)

Post by YLG80 » Thu Oct 07, 2021 7:00 am

For once you will find here information on a radio Made in France.
I have bought it two weeks ago from a guy in Brittany (F) and after having inspected and tested that rig, I can say that it's a first quality VHF FM radio.
It works as a new set and "talks" very well with my SCR-300's

That radio was developed by Thomson CSF in France, for the French Army and the Italian Army.
It was first delivered in 1966 but mostly used during the 70's.
THOMSON CSF was the company that produced in France the SCR-300/BC-1000 under license from Motorola.

In Italy, RV3/RV4 the set was produced by ELMER, division MONTEDEL MONTECATINI EDISON ELETTRONICA S.p.A

In France the radio is coded as follows: TRPP-13 for the backpack version and TRVP-213 for the vehicle version.(P for Portable and V for Vehicle)
In Italy, the same radio was coded RV-3 (backpack) or RV-4 for the version installed in vehicles.
These codes are related to the sets, while the radio itself is coded ER-95A or B in France, ER-95A1 in Italy.
The B version which is the one I have acquired, has an improved squelch.

That fully transistorized FM radio is providing 920 channels by means of a synthesizer.
Channels ares spaced by 50 kHz from 26 to 71.950 MHz. An amazing coverage.

Here are the full specs :

Here are the picture of that radio set.
It includes the radio ER-95B with the handset, the 15W VHF linear amplifier AM-215, the 24V power supply that includes an LF amplifier, the loudspeaker 253-SP-10 and a vehicle antenna base BX-33-A with automatic matching all along the covered bands.

In the French Army, that radio was installed on the JEEP M201 and other vehicles like the P4 jeep, and my set was delivered to the "Gendarmerie Nationale"

Located on the side are military Amphenol connectors for the automatic antenna matching, 24V source, HF linear amplifier and Telecom
With two radios like that, you can very quickly mount a VHF relay.

A backpack complete set :

That beautiful set is assembled to the highest military standards with very good attention to mechanical and electrical details.

Things to know.
Usually when bought in France, the French Army surplus sets have been neutralized by removing all synthesizer crystals. That's a bad surprise
I was lucky enough to acquire a Gendarmerie Nationale surplused set fully equipped, ready to use.

It seems that the Italian RV3/RV4 sets are also intact. To be verified

For only 90 euros, I believe it was a very good deal for a fully functional set.
I had only to buy the antenna matching unit from Italy and the 1.5 meter long antenna MS117+AB24GR.

An internal view of that fully waterproof VHF rig, the synthesizer crystals in their shielded box.

Thanks, yes, you are right, that's a PRC family radio. More like the PRC-77 with no PA tube.

For the fun, here is how that radio equipment was installed in the famous French "panier-à-salades", or "salad basket" as the vehicles of the Gendarmerie Nationale are nicknamed in France.
