LOOKING TO BUY A MT-299 RADIO MOUNT for my M38
I just about completed restoring my 1951 Willys M38 and have begun adding the radio equipment. I'm looking for a MT-299 Mount.

How many slots? I have pieces of several different mounts. The all differ with the number of cable terminated into the U shaped junction box on the bottom.

Re: LOOKING TO BUY A MT-299 RADIO MOUNT for my M38
Because of the two units have different spacing between rails I think I need a minimum of 6 rails
The rails on the units are 9 inches long and from round pin to round pin roughly 8 inches. The slots are 3 and 3/4 center of the pin to the pin to pin
Thanks I appreciate the response
The items I want to mount is a RT-66 radio and a PP-112

Not sure if my return answer was posted or not so here it is again. I believe I need a min of 5 slots but some how I think they come in even numbers so my first post said 6. I am mounting a RT 66 and a PP-112. But realistically if an appropriate mount with more slots is the only thing avail I will consider it. Obviously the radio setup is for static display purposes.

Yes, you need the MT-299 which has five "slots". That will only mount your PP-112 & RT-66 (VRC-8). That will fit lengthwise forward & aft on the LH rear fender. Note that there also two wood oak spacer blocks that go between the MT-299 and the Jeep fender. There are other longer mounts (MT-297 & MT-298) if you want to go all out and you could just mount your PS & RT on them, but due to their length those are required to be mounted on a angle iron frame assy (I cant remember the FM-** number) in the rear of the jeep but then you have to sacrifice the rear seat. Try to find the -299 mount with the junction box and cables still on it. Sometimes they get removed and can be harder to find by themselves than the mount. But if you only want it for display then that may not be too much of an issue.

Re: LOOKING TO BUY A MT-299 RADIO MOUNT for my M38
We usually take a pile of these to Aberdeen for the past three years (last as an exception)
They are in various used condition. I have some that need total cleanup and repair, others that may be usable as is.
ALL are buried in the "Aberdeen" area of the garage and not easily accessable.
A gentleman asked me to bring him a few just so he could restore them last time I was up there, but we skipped a year.
Bottom line:
I have some, different numbers of slots from one radio, to radio and power supply to full rack of multiple radios and supplies as mentioned, including some wood blocks which were hard to find.
No I will not be digging them out until October, at which time we would haul them to Hagerstown Aviation Museum event, 7-9 Oct, the new location for the show.
If you have not located what you want by then, drop me a PM and I will sort out what we have and send you a photo of it to confirm that I can set it aside and you either pick it up, or have someone attending the show pick it up for you.

Re: LOOKING TO BUY A MT-299 RADIO MOUNT for my M38
I used one of the longer racks across the back. This was taken while i was fitting up the install. I ultimately found another rack that had the cables correctly configured for the radio sets I had installed. This the AN/GRC-3 radio set.
With your RT-66 and Powers supply, utilizing the MT-299/GR will make a AN/VRC-6 set. This is for armor frequencies. The antenna base would be AB-15/GR on an MP-50 mount. The antenna sections to complete are MS-116A, 117A and 118A. There is some remote control parts associated with this installation. If you need those numbers I can supply them.

Excellent info I thank you. I will likely design my own mount until I can locate a MT-299. I do know of a 299 avail but it comes with a radio and power supply and will not split off the mount..

Re: LOOKING TO BUY A MT-299 RADIO MOUNT for my M38
Greeting all,
Looking for information and advice.
I want to mount my AR-15 antenna base to my M38 and would rather not cover up my 6” star on the driver side rear. so I was thinking of either an AB-243 or an AB-450. Before I go out and purchase it only to find out the hole is not the right diameter to accept the AR-15, I though I would check with those of you who are more learned than me. If these mounts are not a good solution than what is? I was looking at an over the spare antenna mount, but could only find one and I’m afraid I would have to sell the Jeep to afford the mount and I would have the same question on the diameter of the hole.
Thanks in advance for you input

Ken.
I just saw your post. Hopefully you still have the MT 299. If you do you have a deal. How do you want to do this?.
