Where can I find lanyard crimps?

Post by Kurt Lesser » Thu May 09, 2019 7:21 am

Does anyone on the forum know what the small metal ferrules that form the loops on retaining lanyards are actually called and where they can be purchased? I'm talking about the little, 1/8" black metal bands that crimp around the nylon cord that keeps the rubber covers for connectors from flying away. I've searched crimps and lanyards and every other name I've heard them called but have come up empty.

Can you possibly post a picture so we can have a better idea of what you need?

There was a post about making a cart tow rope a few weeks back. I recall he merely used pipe or tubing, cut to length, but then made a die that would push from both jaws of his vise simultaneously creating the crimp on both sides. The dies being two pieces of angle iron that slipped atop the jaws, with a welded on edge about a 1/2" down inside the inner portion of the angle iron.
You might be able to accomplish a few without resorting to making a die, but having fixed pieces means less juggling of parts.

Edit: I'm sure your looking for the smaller types, like those on compass lanyards or such that are a round crimp on by machine or hand tool, McMasters Carr may be a source. WAW

I'm looking for crimps to make lanyard loops to keep the rubber covers on radio connectors. This is a more "industrial" version but I appreciate the response.

I believe that what you are looking for is a Sta-Kon tool. http://www-public.tnb.com/ps/fulltilt/i ... 111M&co=US
T&B Model WT111M

Get one of those and some uninsulated terminals of the proper wire size and just cut off the terminal portion and crimp away. http://www-public.tnb.com/ps/fulltilt/i ... 15TB&co=US

Grainger sells these, which might also be what you are looking for but they are larger, doesnt say the wire size. https://www.grainger.com/product/15Y761 ... Google+PLA

Hope this helps.
