PRC-77 Battery Replacement

Post by bazookajoe » Thu Aug 09, 2018 4:03 pm

Well i followed the youtube video on how to make a replacement battery and got the same lead acid battery as in the video and charged it up....built the adapter and put it in and voila!!!!! nothing... Now i know the radio works fine and i even tested it on another 77.....is the 13.3 volts not enough to run the radio. Anyone else have this issue?

Are you sure it's a 77? I run two 6V lead acids in series in mine and everything is fine. If it's actually a 25 (open it up and look for the single vacuum tube), then it's not going to work. Past that you have the wrong pins wired and/or wired backwards. Follow the markings on an original battery for the proper connections.

I agree with Snook I can run my PRC77 on a 12 volt lead acid cell used for alarms but it wont fit in the battery box If you have a PRC25 it wont work because you need a separate 3 volts for the filament of the tube You might look and locate a BB586 which is the rechargeable NiCad battery for the 77 They arrnt too common I have to replace some cells in mine
