Wire Bail Latches for a CH264 restoration

Post by planejack » Sun Mar 31, 2024 5:30 pm

Happy Easter to All!
I’m restoring a CH264 Storage Bin Cabinet. It has what I believe are late war spring latches….that aren’t what I’d like to use. So, are the earlier Wire Bail Latches available from anyone?

The spring loaded latches were invented in 1948.All the chests with these are Korean war manufacture. You will need the early thin wire latches not the NOS ones that are out there on the market today. The latches are welded on so you need to cut the spring loaded part off and put the thin wire loops into the latches.

Radtech,
Where do I get that wire to use in replacement. “G504” (Thierry in France) offered me 4 latches with wires….but when he asked me to pay using PP….he never provided his full name when asked…so PP didn’t wok. If anyone else can help….please advise.

Unless you find NOS with wrinkle finish or remove old thin wire latches from a war time BC 1000 you won't find them. The only NOS ones that will work are the war time wrinkle finished. The lever on the spring loaded latches is a little longer than the wire latch and only the thin wire will streach enough to latch properly.Unfortunately I only have enough of the latches for my own use.

Hi, I just now got your message. For some odd reason, there was a delay. I’ll make payment to you tomorrow!
