I am unaware of there being any complete gaskets that will work for the diameter of the mermite top. My thought was to purchase O-ring cord stock and make them. McMaster-Carr has some potential products that might work.

I plan to make some this summer.

I'm going to have the m1944 mermite can top seal/gasket made and am trying to figure out how much od a market there would be. I have a manufacturer and am ready to commit if there is a demand. The cost would be between $40-50 USD. Please let me know if anyone is interested. They are identical to an original that I have..

I have a company willing to make them. I am waiting on samples and want to know how many people will be interested in them. They will be the same type of rubber and food grade. Price estimate right now is $40-50.

Did you ever find a sample? If not, I have one from a 1945 dated M1944 can. Do you need pictures, measurements, etc or the actual seal? I am hesitant to send the actual seal but would be willing to provide information.

M-1944, that's the oval type right? That's not a simple gasket. I look forward to seeing your work at the convention.

Hi, All! HUGE shoutout to Randy regarding the Mermite gaskets - I posted a query and he responded same day with photos. I ordered them immediately and paid same day and he gave me tracking the next morning. What terrific customer service!!!!! :D We are eagerly awaiting their arrival and hope that we can get our Mermites into service (We take our GPW's out for family picnics and sure would be nice to have more military looking cooler!!) WE have posted on another thread about our need for 4 front lower latches with bail to complete the Mermite repair, but we are WAY further along with being able to get the gaskets!!

Thanks again Randy!!!!!!!! 8)
