FS: Scarce WW2 Folding METAL Chair $150

Post by AZ Jeff » Sun May 23, 2021 11:27 am

Found this gem in an Arizona MV junkyard years ago...

WW2 Folding Steel Chair patent markings.jpg

This is the folding steel WW2 chair. The patent is from the Hanson Company in 1934. I have seen this distinctive chair in several period field photos (the unique, stamped pivot bracket gives it away). In my experience, you will find MANY more of the G.I. wooden folding chairs (26-C-2280) before you'll see one of these. I have seen two -- one was being used by an antique fair dealer (and he refused to sell it!)... the other one is this chair. This example has been sand blasted to remove multiple layers of rock-hard paint. The cleaning revealed a crack in one tube...

Otherwise, very solid with no rot or serious dents etc. Ready for your OD paint (original traces of which remain of the seat pan sides).

$150 plus postage. Please PM direct if interested. I can bring it to the 2021 Louisville SOS show if pre-paid. Thanks for looking!

I've got one of those, I grew up with it being used all the time in the barn.
There were a lot of engines rebuilt, tractors, worked on, peas shelled, and corn shucked while sitting on that chair.

I never paid it much mind until I started reenacting, and doing living histories.

I found it in daddy's barn while looking for something else. It sill had faint white unit/post markings on the back of the seat.

If I am not mistaken the meal tubing for the legs is almost triangular as well. I restored my chair and use it at living histories. Most never pay it any mind, but if you know.....you know.
