This is a 1938 M-1935 Luftwaffe "double-decal" helmet with a c. 1940 government refurb. The type 2 LW eagle is about 70% and the tricolor shield 90% -- as the pictures show. Note that the darker (wartime) blue grey was sprayed over the factory smooth blue grey on the exterior only. The later paint is ~ 70% intact with the factory blue grey about 80%. The interior factory paint is easily 90% with this gorgeous dome stamp...

Note how they almost perfectly painted around the tricolor -- but missed on the right side edge. That little screw-up conveniently proves that the decal is original if nothing else. The N.S. shell is a size 62 with a steel band (c.1940) size 54 liner featuring steel pins. Chinstrap is a later production as it appears to have an RBNr on the tip and steel studs and buckle. It is REAL which, these days, is sadly noteworthy.
Not the best LW DD M-35 but a solid survivor and better than the average examples that come up for sale these days. I'm amazed that any early war helmets survived in their early war paint/decals.
