Can you ID this patch?

Post by 82ndrecontbp » Thu Feb 18, 2021 7:40 am

Anyone have a clue on this?

It came from a random patch group acquired from a vet in Hawaii. He served WW2 thru Vietnam BUT that doesnt mean anything really...
We are at a loss. Looked through many books and have even searched Boy Scout and Lifeguard, Ranger, and rescue services.

It is cotton thread, ww2 type weave, does not flouresce.

Any definitive identification??

I thought maybe CCC but it appears not. it is interesting

I am seeing a pine tree and a paddle right?

Interesting on first paragraph on patches it said prior to 1938/39 patches private vendors made their own.

299th Regimental Combat Team (National Guard), HQ in Hawaii. Post-WW2 organization. The cut edge construction on OD#7 backing cloth suggest a 1950s vintage. The symbols and colors reflect the Hawaiian identity of the organization.

Per (the late) patch guru Richard W. Smith, "...The spear has three barbs representing the three islands where the unit has elements and also indicates a fighting spirit. The feathered staff is a Hawaiian Kahaili and alludes to the sovereignty of the islands. The circle suggests the moon and the water and peaks of the island of Hawaii while the two peaks form an M and represent the islands of Maui ans Molokai".

Rarely random this heraldic stuff... LOL
