Re: Tiger tank sent to the USA
Given the relative cost, I would imagine a quick trip to the Forbes most wealthy list in NY should narrow it down quite a bit. Surprisingly, I haven't heard a word about this thing from any other source. Seeing a moving Tiger 1 would undoubtedly spark quite a bit of chatter amongst people who study tanks.

No I don't think so. That is a replica built on a Soviet tank chassis. The one we were talking about was all original built from 5 or 6 other Tiger wrecks.retro-roco wrote: ↑Mon Mar 23, 2020 9:55 amIs this it??

You're right! I should have read more closely... here is a list of Tigers, and their locations. The one in question is noted as in the USA, and presumably in a private collection.

You may want to check with the guys at the Museum of American Armor in Bethpage. They have a nice museum out there. They are familiar with some of the larger collectors on the island.

I would think that if you have the kind of "juice" to purchase & then import something like that, you probably have enough clout to suppress too many people from talking about it(?) It may have gone to a private collector who's not involved with any clubs or organizations and doesn't show off his/her collection. There are people out there like that.

Yeah, not sure about that. It's a TIGER TANK. Won't fit in a shipping container. Has to be shipped in the open on a rail car (right?) Every loader, train engineer, truck driver or just passer by will be able to see it. While the "mysterious buyer" could have DNA agreement with the shipper and higher ups, he couldn't get to every slack jawed yokel who might see it and say something.Buggy Man wrote: ↑Tue Apr 07, 2020 4:03 pmI would think that if you have the kind of "juice" to purchase & then import something like that, you probably have enough clout to suppress too many people from talking about it(?) Fellas, I have a thought. Review (photos/articles) how deck cargo was transported during WII and beyond. It's the same today. Load it up. Weight matters. Location on the ship matters. Stability is very important. Secret Crimp One Off? Cover it with a tarp(s)? Not in my experience would that survive a transit imagined. Not that this couldn't be done, but we are not landing a man on the moon here. Need more evidence (if there is some). There's not a longshoreman or crane operator I know (many) that would not wait to tell a story.

Ok Where's all the photos taken with cell phones/cameras by these "slack jawed yokels" smart guy? A tank of any kind on a low boy on the LIE would garner some sort of "hey check this out" posting by anyone with a cell phone who saw it. Oh, and good luck getting a 56 ton 12ft wide tank across a bridge or through a tunnel up there w/o major connections.

Still don't know the owner, but here is a picture, supposedly at the docks in New Jersey.
