help with summer weight khaki uniform decision

Post by rondo » Fri Aug 24, 2018 4:15 am

I want to build a ww2 officer impression that would be appropriate for say, pearl harbor timeframe, mid 1941.

wwii impressions sells the summer shirt and pants (pants out of stock) for 245, and what priceglory has it for 85. that is quite a difference. I've never done living history before. anyone know the difference in these 2 company's uniforms? is the price worth it?

WWII Impressions are "top of the line", "Musuem quality" or whatever other phrase you want. And made in the US. What Price Gory are made in Pakistan. Quality control has gotten better but used to be pretty bad. I have several WPG items and am happy with them. But they are certainly not as nice as WWII Impressions.

Hi!

You might want to read up a little on the uniform designs, because I don't know which ones they make reproductions of. Pre/early war was a different model than late war (especially for enlisted, but slight differences for officers too). The collar changed shape a little I think.

a little feedback on what was received. I went with WPG, WW2 Khaki pearl harbor era uniform.

The good:
it was easy to purchase from them. Clear descriptions of what is needed, the time period was laid out easy, and confidence was high that everything would match period correct.
-They answered their phone and answered questions accurately. customer service was polite but not enthusiastic.
-Easy as pie to order online, numerous shipping notifications and delivery tracking.
-Everything arrived in 1 box neatly packed.
-quality appeared excellent. The boots look beautiful.
-great price

the not so good? just comments, not real complaints.
-requested UPS and got DHL which required a signature to deliver. I have a day job. This was a pita
-this uniform is huge, probably a size too big. They are cotton and will shrink. Better to get too big than too small I guess. even the garrison cap is too big, but I ordered the size of an original ww2 cap I own that fits perfect. I may wash that too to get it to shrink.
-they are not really khaki, or maybe they are authentic? my expectation was getting something tan, even the website photos showed tan. and I've looked at their website from several different computers and browsers. But this "khaki" is a hmm, mustardy browniliky color?
-ordered the type 1 service shoe and got the type 2. no problem, in fact that could be considered an upgrade.

Some of WPG stuff comes from a warehouse in California. But most comes from a warehouse in Dubai, UAE. Everything from there comes DHL. I can't speak to the other issues though.

well i'm pretty disappointed. after washing them to shrink them I took them to my tailor. she said she'd never seen pants made that like. they are ridiculously big in the shorts, with huge legs but the waist is just right. she's not sure she can do anything with them. the stupid pants look like they were made for a light bulb.

Farrell, sorry for late response as I still need to pick them up. Delays due to the hurricane. the last I saw them you could shove an army field jacket in the shorts.
