bazooka rocket tube length?
i just got some nice repros, but my rockets seem a little loose in them, and they definitely don't fit in my original bazooka rocket bag.
yeah, i know old canvas shrinks and all, but these rocket tubes seem like they are a solid 2" too long. the bag has a flap that is supposed to close over them, and i seriously doubt it was made for 24" tubes like these.
does anyone know how long the original tubes are?

Re: bazooka rocket tube length?
This will help somewhat, if you look at the bottom pic of rocket and tube I think that you can figure out that it wasn't 24" long. The rocket is 21.6" max and it is snug in the tube top and bottom. I would hazard a guess the tube is about 22 1/4" or so.

Here is a bag that may also help, seems to be a good price

Re: bazooka rocket tube length?
thanks steve. i think this photo from the link you provided shows that it's unlikely that the tubes i bought are correct. i guess it could be fixed with some careful cutting..ugh, what a pain this will be to cut a tube straight. any ideas?

;Any saw should work. A radial saw would be best, but a table or cutoff would work too. Try a cut at the end and see hoe clean the cut is. You may have to cut 1/16 long and trim if the cut is ragged. A hack saw would work too, just carefull mark the area to be cut and stay on the line.

Re: bazooka rocket tube length?
A hacksaw would work just use a fine blade like 32 tpi and go slow. A Dremel would work also with a cutting wheel if you have one. I would take some cardboard and roll it inside the tube to stiffen it and not cut through like you are cutting a 2x4 but rotate the tube and just cut on one side of tube. For 3 tubes I think you will be o.k. I would contact the maker of the tubes and let him know of the problem. It could be an easy fix on his part. I would like to see a pic of tubes in your bag when you get it done.

Very nice, rockets/tubes and bag complete. What did the oal length end up being? It looks like your bag couldn't have been shrunken too much, if at all.

Re: bazooka rocket tube length?
about 22" is what the tubes ended working out to.
i emailed the manufacturer, and let him know. he says his next run will be shorter.
btw, i found them here: http://www.serviceofsupply.com/ReproWeaponsAmmo.htm -- looks like he's got them listed as out of stock for now.

Glad that worked out, but I tell people to go through RobL for tubes, his are downright PERFECT in every way, even with the metal end caps stamped correctly.

Re: bazooka rocket tube length?
heh. well, it wasn't a very elegant way to do it. i don't have "fine" tools - mostly tools for big stuff. i had an old radial chop saw w/ one of those steel cutting mesh blades on 'em, and so that rough cut 'em. then, to even them out and make it a nicer cut, i used a fixed radial sander and just pushed the cut end into it until it came out nice and flat and even.JimP wrote:All right , now tell us how you cut them.
but, it all seems to have worked out okay.
hey lee, who is this robL guy, and how do we get a hold of him?

Re: bazooka rocket tube length?
Thanks for positive review Lee.
I sold out of my tubes about a year ago, but I'm making more right now. I am close to finishing my limited run of 20 round bazooka crates...and I want to offer tubes at the same time that the crates are available.
This run of tubes will be the same as the first run: the correct length of 22 1/2 inches long, and 2 5/16 inside diameter; metal end caps embossed with proper nomenclature; and wrapped in black paper like originals.
prefetch: looks like you did a good job fixing the problem and salvaging the "too long tubes."
