M1944 Mermite Info request

Post by Hammerhead » Sat Sep 09, 2023 5:27 am

Hello,
The M1944 Mermites that I've encountered were all dated post war. Even photographic evidence of them in WWII service seems scarce. It seems the familiar M1941 Mermite was the mainstay in WWII.
My question is, did the M1944 come late in the WWII, possibly too late to see service in the war? Just curious and any info would be appreciated.

Is there any way to post this illustration larger. I can't get it enlarged so I can read it. Thanks for any help.

I’ll try to send it by private message, I think I can send a larger file that way.

That was great!! Thank you very much! The Army memo was dated May 1945 and stated even then they will not be commonly seen until the supply of M1941 Mermites were exhausted! That is what I suspected! Thank you for answering another mystery of WWII.

I have one dated 1953 and have seen several dated in the 70's and 80'a. I've never seen one dated WWII. But like that article stated, they were coming late in the war, so it makes sense yours dated 1945. Very cool!
