German "Potato Mashers"... Figuratively and Literally

One handle, different applications...

Potato Mashers.jpg

Left: M43 Stick Grenade, complete

Middle: Unused M43 Stick Grenade handle

Right: Postwar Potato Masher made from leftover M43 handles. I bought this at a German flea market in the late 80s.

What a difference two years can make. This re-purposed stuff was still kicking around 45 years after the war... garden water cans made from gas mask canisters... colanders from helmet shells... salt/pepper shakers from bakelite Zunderbuchsen. I wish I had bought more of it then.

Why not it beats being firewood. Proves the point it is an inert object to be helpful or harmful.
