Thompson dimension questions

Post by lt.luke » Tue Jul 13, 2021 5:09 am

On my Khar Arms M1a1, the steel support for the foregrip is 3/4” wide.

I found 2x GI foregrips I forgot I had. The corresponding slot is 1/2”.

Is the 3/4” slot/bar post war characteristic, or is it early/late GI?

Contemplating modding the steel support in order to use the GI wood.

The repro wood broke over the 4th weekend at the range, while NOT being abused. And while recutting the slot in the wood would be easier it seems like it would be the weaker path.

On 28A1:
Bar: .493
Bar where it goes in the the receiver: .738
Slot: .522
So, yes, mill your bar down to .5 inch or so it fits the wood.
Maybe on the M1 or M1A1 they went to a wider bar; don't know about that.

Thanks for that. Looks like I’m
Going to have to mill the bar in situ? It appears staked in place from the top?

Yes, they do come out; best to leave it in though. However, what really holds them in is the barrel; there is a lug on the fore arm bar that the barrel pushes against. Have to remove the barrel to remove that bar.

Of course.
I am familiar with most everything that launches bullets. Study them every day (along with Jeeps and Dodges), since I was 8.
