WWII Fiber Tubes - For Sale

Post by Quest Master » Sun May 30, 2021 9:26 am

After a year of R&D I am pleased to offer WWII Fiber Tubes for the 75mm Gun, 75mm Howitzer and 81mm Mortar. These tubes are made with original end caps - stenciled with correct factory lot numbers and accurate asphalt paper wrapped cardboard tubes (not just black paper), made to exact specifications. These are not just regular store-bought tubes that were used for wrapping paper or shipping. Each tube was carefully produced to original WWII blueprints and are fully functional, meaning the end caps come off and a full round can be placed inside for display. Nothing like this has been made since WWII - modern fiber tubes are different, and different sizes. Each tube comes with the correct yellow (high explosive) cloth adhesive backed sealing tapes - unattached, so you can leave them open or seal them closed for display (note, once attached the tape may damage the tube when you remove it - it is a sealing tape).
I am selling these: 3 for $105, plus shipping.
Types available: 75mm Gun M48 HE Shell (M4 Sherman Tank etc.) 75mm Howitzer M48 HE Shell (Airborne Howitzer) and 81mm Mortar M43A1 HE Shell (short tube) and 81mm Mortar M56 HE Shell (long tube).
I will be selling these this coming weekend, June 4th to June 6th 2021, at the WWII Weekend, Mid-Atlantic Air Museum, Reading Pennsylvania if you want to buy them in person.

Van,
That is some beautiful work you have done sir! Have you considered doing some more modern era tubes? One of the most difficult items I had to find was cardboard tubes for the 106mm Recoilless Rifle display. Restoring tubes 50 years old plus is challenging when marking the tube with lettering and markings. I do know a number of folks that are interested in Vietnam era 81mm, 4 duce, and 3.5 rocket launcher tubes and markings should you go that route!

I will see you on June 6th at Reading and will buy six tubes. I need to start properly accessorizing my howitzer. Are you in the vendor area or how will I find you there?
Thanks
Alan

Thank you for the praise.
I will be set-up in the center row, three tents back when you enter the vendor area. Look for the guy with all of the crates!

2.36" bazooka rocket tubes would sell well.

I agree that you are a genius sir. And yes, Bazooka round tubes would sell off the shelves no doubt. I had envisioned placing the
tape just at the very edge of the split so that in a display it could be opened and closed many times without damage. Keep up
the great work you do. :D

If you need 75mm Gun or Howitzer lobster crates, or fiber tubes, ration crates, ammunition crates, QuestMasters Museum will be set up at the May 2022 MVPA Hagerstown Aviation Museum (the old Aberdeen show), 14211 Basore Dr., Hagerstown, MD, 21742-1325, Thursday May 12th through Saturday May 14th, Section F, Space 11.

Nice idea about the tape placement.

I assume there are WAY more owners of bazookas and mortars than owners of cannons, so the market for those tubes must be excellent. These things are easily displayed and folks want accessories. Recoilless rifles are seen on vintage military vehicles more than towed guns, in California anyway. M20 armored cars store, what, 8 tubes?

Great work. Shows a lot of effort to make them right. Now my question is have you ever concidered making these. They are small but a lot of collectors would want them to complete their tool pouces and boxes.
