WWII BMG ANM2 50 cal w/ pics

Post by Quest Master » Sun May 09, 2021 11:22 am

This was found in the attic of a local veteran who has a lot of stuff from WWII. What do you think it is worth?

Decent looking replica Van. No good looking replicas are cheap these days, especially if built from original parts.

Dang Jeff! You called me out quickly! :D I thought I would have some fun with everyone first.
I'm the Veteran - and I have a lot of WWII stuff. And, I made it completely out of wood.
The only "real" part is the barrel shroud, which honestly I was too lazy to cut all of those holes to make a replica. The "barrel" and buffer tube are regular electrical (EMT) thin-walled pipe. The E-10 Edgewater Adapter, for aircraft use, is also completely wood.
I made these for my B-29 turret (no I am not making them for sale).
Here they are side by side, wooden (finished one in the rear) and the ones I made this week, side by side:

Very nice indeed. What coatings did you use to achieve that excellent finish?

Brownells "Dark Gray" Baking Lacquer. It is meant to baked on to metal, but it can be used just as paint too. Thin with lacquer thinner and you can spray it out of a Preval spray kit. Looks just like parkerizing.

Note: be sure to shake the heck out of the can before use!!! Like, shake for several minutes! Otherwise, it will look black. Then mix with thinner and spray.

I'm looking for a reproduction or demil pair of the .50s as used in the tail of the B-25s on the Doolittle raid...
