Re: 37mm anti tank gun build....non-DD
Looking great, 100 times more detailed than all the reenactor guns I've seen. This should fall firmly into the metal art category, superb fabrication. I've been saving parts, pictures and sending relatives all over the country taking measurements of guns in parks. I can only hope to do a fraction of the detail that you've accomplished. Remember the fun is making it. I usually have two or three projects going at once so I don't burn out on any one thing. Thanks for the inspiration.

Worked on the elevation linkages, knob, and fire plunger. My blueprints are incomplete, so I'm not sure what angle this is supposed to be mounted. Best I can do is guess by looking at photos. I may be a little high. Opinions from those who know?

Sorry for the delay fellows....unfortunately my beloved CNC Plasma cutter has given up the ghost. The error message says short in one or more gantry motors.
After staying on the phone for an hour or so with tech support, plugging, unplugging, running diagnostics, taking apart, blowing out with compressed air, and trouble shooting. The very knowledgeable and experienced faceless voice on the other end of the line, said that the actual control panel had a short in it. $520 repair.
I've been waiting on the purchase order approval and other lengthy paperwork in order to get this gem repaired. Then there is the shipping and more waiting.
I've been sitting for almost two weeks, twiddling my thumbs. A new school semester, and my kids playing ball have also slowed down the project.

Andy, strange question, but in the grand scheme of things how far along do you think you are?

Re: 37mm anti tank gun build....non-DD
Wow....I don't really know. 2/3 maybe. Still got to do the traverse, sight mechanism, breech ring, breech block, turn, taper, and thread the barrel.
It's come a long way, but has a long way still.
Oh, cleaning rod loops and holders, the actual rods, along with a lot of other little details that will need to be added.
Now that I think about it... It might be closer to 1/2 way than 2/3. That's a bit depressing, but honest.
Why?

and a whole bunch of people really really hate Photobucket. I've switched to Imgur but I've yet to go back and upload my 50cal build photos.

Photbucket's greed. You can't host to forums anymore from them without paying 400 clams a year.
This has ruined entire forums. I've heard many rumors of a class-action lawsuit pending on it.

Re: 37mm anti tank gun build....non-DD
I am super perturbed about these images. I have years of posts on several forums that are now photo-less. Ughhhh
That aside, I have made little to no progress since the last pics were posted. My job took a turn where I did not have time to work on the project. My three kids are all heavily involved in extracurricular activities. Over the fall/winter, we only had two nights a week that my wife and I did not have to divide and conquer softball, football, basketball, theater, or dance. It seemed that there was a practice, rehearsal, game, recital, or show every other day.
As much as I'd like to build full time, I have to be a daddy first.
I think this fall my job will return to somewhat normal. Hopefully I can return to work on the "toy".
I seem to go through spells of mental block. I get to a point where I am trying to figure out how to manufacture something with the tools and resources that I have, and get stumped. It then derails the whole fabrication mindset. I just move to something else entirely. Then when I get back to it, and just throw caution to the wind and begin to work, and epiphany happens. It ends up being much easier that I had previously thought. I could not tell you how many times that his has happened. I think I just need to walk away every now and then, and let the brain reboot.
As far as the pictures go, I will at some point try to find another free image hosting website and replace all of these photobucket links. I am not certain that I have all of them anymore. I'll have to re-save them from PB.
I am sorry that so many are in suspense. I am flattered that so many are following. I knew it had a lot of views, but was not expecting the thread to resurrected until I added something. I guess that is a sign I need to get off my duff, and build something!
Give a me a few weeks for this summer business to slow down.
Thanks guys!

Re: 37mm anti tank gun build....non-DD
I guess I'm a glutton for punishment. Decided to cut that hawsey gee-mo-gittum wampas hawg Mack daddy piece of steel for the breech ring. My brother scrounged up a piece of 10.25 inch diameter solid round stock that was 21 inches long for me to make the breech ring out of.
Joker weighed over 500lbs. It took two days on the band saw but the first of many cuts has been made.
For those concerned,... This ring will not be able to thread onto a live barrel. It will also not have all of the cocking And firing components in it.
I just hope I get it to look mostly like the originals. This is a big Mass of steel with lots of awkward radiuses. I hate to venture a guess at how long this part is going to take to make.

His pics are gone because he posted them on Photobucket; they are now being held for $500 per year ransom. PB decided to alienate all its customers and I know of no one who is paying their exorbitant fees, so all pictures that were hosted from PB, are now blocked.
BUT, the way for G503 is to post the pictures directly from your computer; this forum, unlike most, allows for that.
