One 'minor' question is the date the "C" model came out, as you don't want to be stamping '42 on it if it came out in 43, 44, etc. So the 'Charlie' model date would be the next question before committing the numbers.

The parts list does indicate screws to attach the data plate, but I prefer Rivets like the one in the pic.

I used brass rivets.They look good and will tarnish with age.

I wouldn't worry too much about the date the pedestal has, as an earlier one, say a '41, could be fitted to a '42 jeep as they would use the next one off the shelf, and a '42 jeep could easily be fitted with say a '44 pedestal if later on in its service it was required.

Are the brass M-31C Data Plates once offered by Garrick Smith still availible? They were made to perfection.

I recently purchased one of Garrick's m31c brass data plates from Army Jeep Parts. It looks like an original, beautiful. Once I stamp the date, inspected by and number on it....where does it mount on the pedestal? Front, back?? How high from the base?
Thanks, Jim

There are two holes for the Name plate and they were attached by round head thread cutting screws.
The ORD No. for the M-31C PLATE is 7069923
The Two Screws are;

SCREW, TAPPING, THREAD CUTTING:
RDH, SLTD-BLUNT-PT, STL, CD-OR ZN-PLD, NO.6-32NC, 5/16 LG

The two Screws are located half way between the bottom of the socket and the upper leg bracket.

I did not use Slotted Round Head Screws to attach the IDENTIFICATION PLATE, but used Drive Screws (drive rivets).

I believe the markings for the Identification Plate are in "JEEP" Bantam,Willys, Ford by Emile Becker on Page 230.
I have misplaced the original M-31C IDENTIFICATION PLATE from the M-31C I bought from L.NABHOLTZ . I left the excellent reproduction IDENTIFICATION PLATE by Garrick Smith blank. I have retired and stored the original M-31C away for the time being.
