FS: Trailer, Fuel Servicing, 600-gallon, Type A-3

Post by dogtags » Sat Oct 01, 2022 7:51 am

I have owned this trailer for 6 years. I realize I will not be the one to finish the restoration of this trailer, so I am offering it up for you to finish. As far as I know, this is one of 3 in the United States and less then around 8 in the world. In the captions of the photos are more details on what is all included in the sale.

Image
This is how it should have looked when it rolled of the assembly floor...

Image
This is how it looks today. I removed the fenders and pump support structure and then steam pressure washed them, removing many years of paint. I then took the tank off the frame and steam pressure washed the frame, revealing some of the original OD. The rims were sandblasted and repainted before mounting 4 brand new tires. I chose highway tread as that is what many of the original pictures show them wearing. I only have two of the four tires installed on the trailer for ease of moving the trailer around.

Image
Included are some metal pieces for repairing the back bumper.

Image
Included are two metal pieces that mount the rear side marker lights/reflectors I had formed up off of the one original I had left on the trailer. There are also a bunch of original marker lights included with the trailer.

Image
Four reproduction reflectors and another one of the rear side marker lights/reflector mounting brackets. You can just see the original one hanging off the right side of the bumper in this pic.

Image
Including an original US Army Air Forces fuel filling nozzle.

Image
Detail on the nozzle.

Image

Image

Image

Image
Including a Blackmer fuel transfer pump that I was planning to use in place of the near-impossible to find original pump.

Image
The landing leg should use many of the same parts as a searchlight trailer, if you wanted to hunt down the correct rim and tire.

Image

Image
The underside of the trailer is very clean.

Image

Image
The storage box and fire extinguisher bracket are missing.

Image
The inside of the tank is very clean. This pic is looking through the fill hole forward to the baffle.

This pic is looking through the fill hole to the back of the tank.

Image
Many of the brackets that were used to hold the wheel chocks remain.

Image
Original data plate.

Image

Image
Serial number 4187-43

Image
General data on these trailers.

The trailer is located in East-central Wisconsin, USA. I’m asking $2,500 or near offer. For more information or to arrange purchase, click on the chat bubble next to "Contact" at the top of the page, underneath my profile info.

I really like the military marked fuel nozzle.
I have to question where you got your "numbers" though? I have owned two of these trailers and have since passed both on. Yours is is much better shape for sure, but I don't think they are anywhere near as rare as you believe.
Not trying to take away from what you have but would really like to know why you believe it is that rare?

George,

When I got the trailer, I did a pretty exhaustive search on the internet for other owners and photos. The numbers I posted were about all I could find at that time. Some people have A-1 trailers, which are similar, but not the same. As it looks like you were not on this board at the time I bought it, I wouldn't have know about your trailers. There could very well be other trailers out there I don't know about.

I'd be interested in seeing pics of the trailers you owned, if you have any.

Those pictures were a number of computers ago and I doubt I have any anymore.
Had to look up my tm2800 but mine were definitely A-3 style.
I can only speak for myself, but suspect there are lots of folks like me that have many potentially rare rigs that I just don't talk about. But I can see where you would get the belief that there are few out there. If you are right, maybe you can add 2 more into the list that I used to own. I know one went to the Seattle, Wa. area but don't remember where the other one went to. They were both much rougher than yours, so yours is not one of the ones I used to own.
Either way, good luck on the sales.

Oh man that's a great trailer. I can't have any more projects right now. I tried to get my friend to buy it and tow it back when he visits Oshkosh next month. But his HOA already won't let him park his trailer for towing his Jeep around in his driveway...

Yes it is. Feel free to make an offer. I’d like to get it out of my driveway before the snow comes. :)
