Ben Hur landing leg tire

Post by D6c » Sun Apr 25, 2021 4:06 pm

Accidentally posted this on 2 1/2 ton truck forum so I'll repost it here.
Found a landing leg for my Ben Hur trailer but without a tire. Do you think if I used this tire and tube it would work ok?
I would discard the tubeless rim that the tire is on and use the original rim with a tube.

At any rate it won't cost much to find out.

That's the right size. I don't have pictures handy but I picked up a wheel and tire from Tractor Supply that had a nice retro looking diamond tread pattern that kinda looked like an original one.

I haven't been able to find a pic showing what an original tire looked like.
Something like this?

Short answer. Yes very close to that. Long answer forthcoming. I had photos of the tire but now can't find them. I'll get back to you soon. In the meantime look at the post right below this one. Shows two tires. They look to be slightly different and are different pattern then the one I had. No idea how original any of these three are. My tire could have been replaced anytime from 1941 until a decade or two ago. But it seemed old.

I found this Firestone tire that looks a lot like the older ones on the landing legs that were up for sale recently.

Of course studying original photos is probably better then looking at tires that are of unknown age. If one can make out the treads... Check out our photo gallery here. On the first page are two 1941 photos with the rubber landing tire visible. There's another on page two.
