Ben Hur Trailer Brake Hardware Help

Post by Warren Duchesne » Sat Jan 05, 2019 5:32 pm

Could someone with their Ben Hur Brakes apart or with spare brake parts please photograph and measure the springs and hold down pins for me . I have found a pile of surplus brake hardware and would like to sort it out and identify what I have found . Pictures can be sent to warrensauto@hotmail.com . Thanks in advance.

Hey Warren, Thanks for the two fuel gauge floats that you sent me several weeks ago. I don't have any measurements for the springs, but perhaps you can make do with these photos. I took them when I was working on my trailer last summer. Dave.

This photo shows the spring that was missing. Both springs at this end of the drum are the same length.

Here is the replacement.

I hope these pix help.

Thanks I appreciate the pictures. That does help but hopefully someone will be able to measure them for me so I can do a positive ID .

Hi Warren, the 2 long springs look like they are 5-3/4" long, tip to tip. The short one is 3-1/2".

Nice pix Tim. Did both of you guys see that there is a big difference in our two sets of photos? The back plates I have have a 4 bolt pattern and my trailer is a Dec. 1942.
What year trailer is your back plate from Tim? I think it would be worth knowing the difference.

Hi guys, yes there is a big difference. The photos are of unknown date BH, but I believe to be later. This is off the first trailer in my thread, "Killer." The obvious is the later 5-hole spindle vs. 4-hole, and the later single adjuster vs. 2 adjusters. Dave, I noticed you had the same 4- hole spindle as my earlier trailer that I am restoring. All part of the fun.
