No problem, legit question. What, you don't have WW2 SNL Carrier, Bottle? A man's gotta stay warm on a cold April night, ya know.

Getting down to the details now. And I'm not super-fond of the stencil process. I looked back at what was there, and decided to start with what looks to be the most difficult: the tailgate star, because it straddles the rib support.
Image
I'm noticing that originally it was not perfectly centered. I will not be able to do that, for personal reasons. But, to me, it does lend to the idea that these were tools of war, and there was urgency, (even 11 months before Pearl Harbor).
Image
So here we go. The planned location. I really hate that I am giving this so much attention, when it was such a minor afterthought in 1941.
Image
I started with sticking it on the raised rib, then the outer edges, then sliced the stencil where it stepped back into the sheet metal, a few extra pieces of tape, and give it a try.
Image
I have learned to go really light on the first tack coat.
Image
I added 2 increasingly heavier coats 10 minutes apart, then immediately pulled the stencil, and here it is, I give it a 5.

I'll take your "5" any time! Don't short change yourself. That is a fine looking star.

Thanks Matt. I try to remember that back in '41 they slapped those stencils on and they never looked this good.

The star was the warmup to the main event. This is the proof I got from Rick Larson, who did these from dimensions and photos of the originals.
Image
Looking back at my photos and dimensions so I can place it correctly.
Image
This is where it was, and I'm happy the canvas won't cover it.
Image
Stuck it on, pulled the outer cover, masked it off.
Image
Once again, very light tack coat, then 2 more quick coats, pull it off immediately. I hate this part, envisioning fouling this up a week before the meet. But it turned out great. I can exhale.
Image
And...cue the trumpets! The previously thought to be impossible has been accomplished. A plaque will be erected saying, On this day, April 5th, 2019, after an 89 day ordeal, the DMV actually registered a trailer with no paperwork. Did they send plates? No. But I have an expensive piece of paper to show the officer.

That pre-war stencil looks great, and it's good to see that you stayed the course and navigated through the DMV to get the registration slip!

It just goes to show you what a Liberal, Money Grubbin' state will do for just a few more dollars of revenue. After all the state of Calif. never did return the 3 billion dollars of Govt. funds intended for that stupid Vacuum Tube High Speed Rail project that FAILED!!!
Looks great Tim. It also looks like you'll make it to the Camp Pioneer event with trailer in tow, ATTA-BOY!! :)

Thanks, man. I'm already loading up for the meet, and as you know we have a great time. You should make it down one of these times.

Well, I know I'm tired of stencils, so I'll make it quick. After doing the left side unit markings, the tailgate USA number is last.
Image
Lined up with the original dimensions.
Image
Did the USA first, now ready for the number.
Image
The number is the DNA of the trailer. And now it's officially back in action.

With the sun out, and my to-do list getting pretty thin, it's time to get it out where I can see it. It always strikes me with projects how, for so long, you think you will never be done, and one day you just are.
Image
I think the stencils turned out great, and I am getting rid of the license plate now that I have the expensive paper the DMV sent.
Image
It was so nice, I had a chance to get the command car out, and introduce them for the first time.
Image
I'm hoping a little sun will straighten out some canvas wrinkles.
Image
Here you can see the snow is still 6' deep around here. I'm ready to get down to the green grass of Plymouth.
Image
I think they look pretty good together.
Image
Went for a quick ride around the neighborhood, I really can't tell it's behind me.
Image
Climbed up on the snow bank across the street for a wide shot. In this kind of light the paint color difference isn't noticeable, and my lawn behind the truck won't need mowing for a little while.
Image
Decided no time like the present to get the top on the command car. Yes, there is quite a difference in the canvas color, but for now, that's the way it is.

I am finally able to focus on loading up for the meet. AND... I got the license plate and title. I might have to take back some of what I've said about the CA DMV.
Image
Loaded up all the stuff that doesn't fit in the CC, fire pit, smoker, about a quarter cord of oak firewood. Yes, I protected the bed for this first time, Hey,I want it to look nice for at least this one week.
Image
Also, some fun stuff for our big happy hour. Don't want to leave rings on Zeph's new bar.
