Interest in M10 ammo trailer repro data plates??

Post by Tapper02 » Sun Sep 09, 2018 5:12 am

Looking to send off two rough samples of data plates for the M10 trailer for reproduction, a Fruehauf and a Schelm Bros. The Fruehauf will probably be spin cast, with the Schelm Bros. being cast then photo etched to match the very slight relief. The serial number and date of manufacture will be left blank to stamp as desired.
I’m doing this regardless, as I’m in need of a data plate for my trailer. Is anyone else interested and if so, which plate would you prefer?
Before you ask, I won’t have a quote until after October, so this is more of a feeler than a solicitation for orders. Once I get a quote I’ll update the post.
If this works out, especially with the Fruehauf plate, I intend to have a run of the small loading plates made. There was an effort to do this a few years ago that never panned out, so I’m crossing my fingers that this will be a successful venture.

Some other things have taken precedence but I think I'm getting close to a solution...bumping this to the top to see if there is any interest out there. Anyone?

Hello Tom,
I would be interested in either plate.

Thanks Gary...I'll put you on the list.

Update (10APR19):
Sticking with just the Schelm Bros version at this time...

No one seems to work with lead or zinc anymore. The lowest quote that I have been able to get is below, with the plates made from either 316 Stainless Steel or 5052 Aluminum...and the cost will depend on material and quantity.

SS is cheaper but will be harder to stamp, while the aluminum will be easier to stamp but will run more.

Prices below are for quantities of (5), (10) and (20), plus shipping...

Stainless Steel
(5) $113/ea
(10) $62/ea
(20) $53/ea

Aluminum
(5) $169/ea
(10) $104/ea
(20) $70/ea

Still researching alternatives...

You should speak with Robert at Horne Data Plates. He is in Poland and makes custom plates that are with perfect detail and in various shapes.

Thanks for the recommendation Dave. I corresponded with him a few months ago but unfortunately the maximum thickness he can do is 1.5mm. The Schelm Bros data plate, which needs to be etched, is a little over 4mm. The Fruehauf version needs to be cast, and this one is in the works right now.

Thanks again...definitely appreciate any and all advice!

Which one? The Fruehauf ones are in work...the Schelm Bros will be blank plates that I'll etch myself.

Progress...cleaning up the original to make a silicone mold for the casting master:
