How does the bracket retain the wheel, I assume horizontal when it's folded? Does the wheel clip to it???

Is it something that can be fabricated or is it a casting? Maybe someone like Midwest Military could repop these :!:

Looks like Ted's trailer for sale below has one on it, too:

The port fork fits into the little bracket when the wheel is stowed for towing, Marty. As for the fenders, I purchased the very last pair. Which arrived today and made their way to the sand blasting shop.
I have yet to explore the East side of Wa. State. It is much like the high desert of So. Cal., and I have heard that there is quite a bit of equipment scattered throughout the area. I just have to go and find it.

Well Gents, today felt more like Los Angeles than Seattle with the temps. reaching 95 degrees. Perfect weather for laying some 33070 on the trailer. Here are some photos of today's exercise.

Thanks John for the paint, I can always count on you to deliver the products I need to get my projects closer to completion. ALWAYS remember to protect you lungs with an Organic Vapor Mask when playing with noxious chemicals.

Here are my newly acquired N.O.S. fenders before paint.
Image

I began by painting the inside of the bed first. I sprayed 2 generous coats here. I figured that after the generator is installed, I wouldn't want to break everything down again too soon to repaint.
Image

Then I "cut in" areas that might be a little problematic as I sprayed the exterior.
Image

Two heavy coats for the bow was in order.
Image

OOOOHHHHH, them fenders!! :)
Image
Image

Almost finished.
Image

I have a little bit of cleaning yet to do to the spare tire carrier and then I can paint the underside. I really wanted to get it into paint before too long. Stand fast for more, thanks for looking.

Gents, a little more progress was made today. After having had a small setback in the way of late model fenders not lining up with the mounting holes, I had the original fenders blasted. I primed them today and changed the tires over to a pair of 1941 wheels that I have been saving for some time. Here are some pics. of today's exercise.

First up is a photo of one of a squad of inspectors that were making sure I was doing things in a correct, orderly, military manner  . There were about 6 of them patrolling around having a look at what I doing. They weren't sayin' much so I'm hopin' that "No News IS Good News"...........
Image

This photo is figuratively and literally, "Cart before the Horse" :) , but sometimes things just work out this way. Actually the photo is of the tire I removed from the 1963 dated wheel, awaiting installation onto the '41 wheel.
Image

Undercarriage shot.
Image

I changed the starboard side first and took the photo of the port side upon completion. I can't remember the last time tires slide off the wheels as easily as they did today. I barely had to fight them at all. Also you can see the N.O.S. Late Model Fenders I purchased that won't fit this trailer, in the bed.
Image

These are the original fenders that came off the trailer. I had them blasted, then I primed them today. Tomorrow they will be painted 33070.
Image
Image

After the paint has time to cure properly, I will install them and then build a mount that will incorporate the holes in the bed for the P.E. 95 and the P.E. 197. I don't want to drill more holes in the floor of the trailer. Thanks for looking.

Well Gents I had some time yesterday and today to hang fenders and install the gates on my trailer. Here are some photos of that exercise.
Thinking back to the beginning of my thread, what she looked like at the start and what it is now is as stark as day and night. Lotsa hours and lotsa hard work, the end result makes it ALL worth the time and effort!!

Definitely looks better green than white! Great job restoring the original racks...it was interesting following your progress and seeing how you tackled the twists in the bows. Learned a lot!

Thank You Tom. I still have a few little things to take care of, but it will be 100% pretty soon.

Here are a few more photos with the bows installed. The bows Came from Brent Mullins Jeep Parts. They were among the last of a batch He had found in Europe. Only one of them had a twist "issue", but I showed how I fixed it earlier in the thread.

All of the wood is very old and still needs a lot more boiled Linseed oil rubbed into it. Thanks for looking.

Hey Gents, just a few more photos of some recent acquisitions to bring my trailer closer to completion. Thanks Robin for the "Hen's Teeth".

We all know how hard it is to find the landing leg catch and a good serviceable black-out switch.

It is unfortunate that a machine is dissected when it can't be sold as is and restored to its' former glory. Perhaps it is best said, "that others may live" when that machine becomes a parts donor. These two small but important parts will make an incomplete machine whole again.

Hey Dave, I asked about that bracket too, and was glad to hear that since it was already gone, that it was you that snagged it! Congrats!

Hey Gents, happy Sunday!! Well today the P.E. 197 found its' way into the Ben Hur Trailer. The gears in my head have been turning for some time now about how to mount the generator in the trailer. I certainly did not want to drill MORE HOLES in the deck, so I came up with a simple wood skid that the gen. could sit on. The only new holes will be in the wood. I didn't take photos of the wood skid build, but I did mill the 3.568" X 3.872" X 10' post down to a correct 3" X 3" just like what a finished piece of lumber would have been in the 1940's.
The P.E. 95 is wider than the '197 so I measured everything carefully and made some "side mounts" through which the carriage bolts will pass anchoring the entire assembly to the deck of the trailer using the original '95 holes. I then rolled some 33070 onto the wood, and Bob's your uncle........

Image

I can't give enough accolades over that gantry crane I built, it sure is a back saver. :)
Image

Snug as a Bug in a Rug! And the balance is just right too.
Image

Now, to bolt it to the deck of the trailer, a few more little items to fix and add, decorate with our National Symbol and she's finished.
