Just a few photos today Gents. I finished securing the P.E. 197 to my Ben Hur trailer today. It is officially now a K-63A Generator Trailer. I also mounted the data plate back onto the box. Does anyone know if I can find the correct registration numbers from the serial number of the trailer? Please let me know.

We have had some pretty big fires around the Pacific North West over the last several weeks, and rain is in the forecast. I covered the gates and generator with a Chi-Com plastic tarp. I know it is sacrilege but I need more time in which to purchase a new tarpaulin.

Has anyone purchased a tarpaulin for their trailer recently, who did you get it from and would you buy a second from that vendor? Please let me know. Thanks for looking.

Dave, the Ben Hur we brought back from PA has a great tarp on it. I'm sure it's a repo but the leather straps and the fit and the weight are outstanding. I'll unfold it and see if I can come up with a manufacturer for it. And, I can take some photos at the same time, if needed. The manila ropes were woven into themselves at each grommet, which I thought was a neat feature.

Hey Gents, I went on a little excursion last Saturday and procured some Jerry can holders. Here are a few photos of them. Thanks Bob for the offer of Mfgr. on your Tarpaulin, but I am pretty sure my mind is made up to go with the Worthings at CanvasCo. I have read some pretty nice reviews here and on other M.V. sites, giving them very positive accolades for their workmanship.

All 6 were sandblasted.

And here they are, primed and waiting for 33070. I had my camera on the wrong setting, sorry for the dark image.

Yet another installment of O.D. parts in the K-63A Trailer. I had purchased some Jerry Can holders a few weeks ago from a friend. Here they are all painted up and installed.

Port side looking forward. I am unable to mount the center two holders because my wood mounts are a little too wide. I will have to make the proper adjustments at a later date.

2 Fuel and 2 Water cans installed. There is a local business that performs hot galvanizing, these cans will go to be restored there.
Image

Can anyone tell me what these holes are for? This is the starboard side looking aft, and the second photo is the port side looking aft. They are uniformly punched through the deck. I suspect the larger one on the port side is where a power cable passes through. I don't know.

I put a few more hours into the K-63A trailer today Gents. Things went smoothly until I realized that I forgot to install the flap when I installed the tire on the wheel , I know better. Especially after having assembled so many. Oh well I guess that ole "C"ongressional "R"esearch "S"urvey is beginning to creep up on me................... :)
Anyway, here are some photos of today's efforts. Oh and yeah, I did break the tire down and install the flap, mess up the paint and have to repaint after wheel assembly was complete.

A little blurry, but you get the picture. I had to turn the Jerry Can holders around because the way I had initially installed them, I would not have been able to operate the buckle and strap that holds the Jerry Can in place.

The front view looking aft.
Image

I was amazed and quite pleased at how fast this all went together. WHERE'S THE FLAP!!!??
Image

Here we are after flap was installed.
Image

Now to tuck the tire into its' cradle.
Image
Image

The last thing I did today was to sandblast, prime and paint the landing leg guide.
Image

Just a few more things to do and She'll be finished. Thanks for looking.

I had some time today to do a very small task to the K-63A today. I installed the Landing Wheel Catch. It should have been one of those "Fall of a log backwards" tasks that is as easy as can be, but no. I had to cut a pair of bolts down to facilitate a proper fit. Though I can't do much about "The Light-Fingered" as Ben referred, I can do some thing about road vibration. I used poly lock nuts to prevent the possible loss of a very difficult item to find.

Image
Image

Do any of the "Trailer Guru's" out there know which catch is correct for a 1942 trailer, Stamped or Cast? I sure would like to know 'cause I have been asked that question several times. Thanks for looking.

Howdy Gents, I received a box at my place of employment on 13 Mar. 2019. I have been waiting patiently since early Nov. 2018 and boy am I ever satisfied with the contents of said box. Here are some photos of what I received.

Looks awesome. I can't wait to get mine on also. It is currently stinking up the garage after being kicked out of the house. How's the fit? Looks ok. And is there a standard knot for the tie downs?

Thanks Ben and Tim.
Tim, the fit is a tiny bit loose which I like. I was able to move it around upon initial installation and adjust it to where it fit best, which was soooper easy. The stitching has a look of slight haste to it in some areas which I also like as it adds more of a 1940 to 1945 look to it. The buckles have little rollers on them so that the belt will move more easily through them. One of mine is on backward. Again, adding to the realism of human error during times of haste and tiredness of an over worked person on the "home-front".
Also the price with shipping did not leave me with the feel of a hole burned in my pocket as it was not horrendously over-priced. My tarp left England and was in my possession three days later. I am very pleased with the tarps' color, fit, tiny oddities and odor. It is way better than anything I could ever produce. I will buy tarps only from the Worthings at Canvasco from now on.
Oh Yeah, if there is a standard for tying the knot at the loop, I don't know it. We may have to solicit the help of some Navy type personnel who worked the Yards and Docks around trucks and trailers for that help. They are the boys who's job it is to know how, when and where to tie the correct type of knot. :)

2 things I'm noticing. First, the tarp has an obvious front and rear, mostly determined by the placement of the ropes. Have you thought about marking it? That would avoid getting it all unfolded and draped on backwards. Second, and this I had never noticed, the front flap goes over the sides, the rear flap goes under the sides. I'm assuming for air flow while driving. Just an observation.

You know Tim, I just put the darn thing on my trailer and without instruction. I thought that it was to installed in this configuration. And yes I did think of marking it someway, but then it quickly escaped my mind when I was tying the ropes down. When B.W. Canvas made the top for my my Command Car, I asked to have their logo omitted from it. I prefer not having modern mfg. I.D.'s on my equipment. That's just me.

Gents, I performed a bit of surgery today on my K-63A Trailer. The original tail light brackets had been removed sometime ago, and only the mounting tab remained where it was welded in place. Timsresort had found a pair of later model brackets and directed me to the seller. Here they are along with photos of the installation.

New Brackets and hydration container.
Image
Image

Here is where the original was stuck the body.
Image

The driver side was 5 1/2 inches up from the bottom to the top of the Bracket and 10 1/4 inches forward from the front of the rear stake pocket. The passenger side was 5 1/2 and 10 3/4 inches. No need for precision on the assembly line, the trailer is just gonna get blown up within three weeks anyway!! :o
Image

These were a bolt on application, but I wanted to weld them into place.
Image

The weather today was perfect for spraying O.D. paint. I made the area surrounding the brackets smooth, then primed and painted them.
Image
Image

I just need two passenger side tail lights to complete the two driver side tail lights I already have, then I'm good to go.

Thanks for looking.... :)
