Trailer Identification Help Needed - Signal Corps??
Please see the photos below.
Any thoughts or ideas as to the identification or nomenclature of this trailer?
It does not have a dataplate, unfortunately....
I do not see any evidence of markings or numbers.
It does have plenty of OD paint lurking under the added paint layers.
There was a good patch of early war od green on the hub/rim area that had been protected from the elements for years,
and the rims or the hub, (I cannot remember which), has a date of 42 cast in them, that was seen when tires and rims were
removed during it being moved.
It resembles the pictures I see of a Signal Corps K-35 trailer, but this is a single axle trailer.
It has the little hatch door beside the entrance door like a K-35, and it has the four corner jack stands too.
Is it an early version K-35? Or something completely different?
The inside looks to have been originally paneled in a thin unpainted plywood that appears original.
It is set up for a landing wheel but it is not there.
It has the military lights as shown,
and it has an intervehicular cable outlet on the front.
Any input would be appreciated!!

Hello;
Did you ever find any info on your trailer? Looks very similar to the K-19.

Very interesting, is it single or dual rear wheels?

Yes, it does look very similar. Mine only has one door. It's a single axle, single wheel, not duals. Mine is also very boxy not slanted/sloped/streamlined. Maybe it's an early version K-19?
Thanks for the input!! I still want to learn anything I can about the Trailer!

That's cool! Any pictures of the inside? Are there any holes on the outside for antenna mounts? Has to be a signal corp trailer.

Re: Trailer Identification Help Needed - Signal Corps??
I currently do not have any interior photos. Unfortunately the interior is far less impressive than the much needed TLC outside view. The interior appears to have been lime greenish primed metal with evidence of being panelled in approximately one quarter inch plain plywood. Larger panels at joints were covered with approximately 2 inch wide plywood strips. One section under a window had screw hooks in the plywood in a horizontal row spaced as if clipboards had hung there. I do not see any holes or evidence of mounted antennas. There is no longer anything left in/behind what I call the small "hookup" door or what I would consider to be a cable connection. As you say, I too assume it's Signal but it would be nice to find a true reference.

Must have been a command post trailer for training maneuvers or something. Kinda like the Patton trailer I've seen on the internets.

Too bad it doesn't have dual axels, would make a really neat jeep hauler!

Re: Trailer Identification Help Needed - Signal Corps??
There was a Signal Corps photographic trailer with single door - single axle - single 20" wheels. I don't remember the windows. May be some clues to follow up on.

Hello,
Did anyone discover what model this trailer is ??
I just bought one, but haven't picked it up yet.
It is exactly the same as this one.
Best Regards,
Ray

Re: Trailer Identification Help Needed - Signal Corps??
Hello,
To me these look like a trade mark Fruehauf front end, without their logo attached belong the upper trim center design.
Looks just like their design !
Does anyone have any information on what model trailer this is ?
Here is the only other known example of this trailer, that I just bought.
It has been saved from being scrapped, thanks to the seller !
I am really happy to get the trailer, as it will be a great restoration project, and make a nice travel trailer on the inside !!
It will become a mobile command post camper !!
Best Regards,
Ray

Re: Trailer Identification Help Needed - Signal Corps??
Hello,
Does anyone have any ideas on a possible model number for this trailer ?
I have found that there were many makers of the K-35 type trailer, but these 2 trailers are 4 window, not 5.
There must be a manual or something out there with information !
I found a great trailer link of outstanding restored special trailers on display.

Ray,
I have absolutely no idea but will be asking around. The fact that there's two survivors convinces me that this isn't just some old MVCC camper-rod project from convoys of old, but true military.

Re: Trailer Identification Help Needed - Signal Corps??
Thanks Matt,
Absolutely, these are military trailers, and this one has military makings under the paint.
Once it arrives in Florida I can determine what is written under the paint.
Note the black out tail lights, on both trailers.
Most of the known Signal Corps "House Type" trailers as they were designated, were made in low numbers, but these must have been even a smaller batch, as we have only found 2, here in the G503 world !!
Here is a link to the Powder River Ordnance website, with a TM Addendum for sale, that identifies these style trailers as " House Type" trailers.
https://powderriverordnance.com/shop/mi ... 4485ae434a
I am so glad to save it, so it wouldn't have become steel scrap metal, and be long gone.
It was either used by the Signal Corp, or the Army Air Force as a radio transmitter or receiver trailer, I am guessing, since it spent decades next to a local radio station tower, according to the seller.
I am also glad the recent owner, wanted to offer it to be rescued, to avoid being scrapped.
I will look forward to your help on identifying this trailer !
If anyone can, I am sure you can !
I sent a pm to the original poster on his trailer, but he hasn't been active on the G for some years.
Best Regards,
Ray

Re: Trailer Identification Help Needed - Signal Corps??
Ray,
Not much news yet. I haven't found it in TM 9 2800 nor the Signal Supply Catalog. The current running theory is that it's a K-19 by another builder. But that's it. Just a theory, nothing definite. Once yours arrives any markings or tags you might be able to recover from it will be helpful for sure.
