USN Bomb Trailer MK3 MOD 1

Post by Robin » Sat Jan 14, 2012 10:49 am

Fresh for the farm this morning. What's it supposed to look like? I think it's supposed to have an elevated wooden deck. And I may not keep it, so if anyone is interested, let's talk.

Robin,
Here's what it would have looked like.

Here's another picture of the MK3 MOD 1 with the bomb racks, or wooden platform.

Robin,
Thanks for posting the image. I had not seen the flat bed version before. That’s a neat configuration. Add some benches and it would make a great people carrying parade vehicle. I wonder if the flat bed was a Navy field modification. The Highway Trailer Co. service manual shows the trailer with and without the cradles (just the open frame) but nothing showing a flatbed. It is interesting to note the difference in the tongues and tool box arrangements on the two versions shown in the image. I suspect the upper one is an Anthony Company product and the lower one the Highway Trailer Co. version.
Regards,
Jim

Note the emergency breakaway switch under the receptacle on the front.

What little information I have says that the flat bed was built using the packing crate that the trailer was shipped in.

I also have a Mark 3 mod 1 navy bomb trailer. I am having a hard time finding wheel rims and stud bolts. Old rims are damaged. Anyone able to identify what auto those six bolt rims came from?

Answer my own question....six bolt rims 5.5 inch circle. Some older GM products and a few light pickup rims. Light pickups are 14 inch rims, older GM are 15 inch and the original trailer had 16 inch rims. I gave up searching and repaired the GM rims with JB weld in the bead rust area. So, I have 2 and a half original rims if anyone needs.
