here're my homeworks. :D

they are the Converto's I'm aware of.

blue are recently trailers added to the wonderful David Aro's job... pink are those information missing or possibly incorrect. yellow... is mine! 8)

it could be nice to have it sticky (moderators?).

and,...even nicer if you owner would put your G503 nickname and state/country beside your trailer's USA number, replying to this message... the way Im doing after this post.

enjoy!

I own two converto dump trailers....one with no tag and one with. On the one with a
tag the Registration number is 0877890 (as best I can make out). Is there any way to
tell from this where it was built - Pittsburgh or Cambridge City?

Also, on the trailer with the tag - the PA state title for it lists USA 454348. Which
number is the correct one to refer to it as far as where it fell in the production?
From what I read this is really the serial number - is that correct?

Trying to learn as I go along - thanks for the insight in advance! :D

Hi Joe!

tks for adding informations on yours... did you notice that your Converto brings the USA NUMBER subsequent to mine??!! ...I own the Converto 0877889... they were side to side when that rookie was painting numbers on them in 1944...

as far as I know, Converto's had no frame number...so the USA number was the VIN indeed...no chances to know which was the plant also... I talked with people at Converto, and they had a great fire in 1972, so they lost all the archives... references to war production is lost forever... unless you go to NARA and start browsing documents there... :?

we are all trying to learn and better understand our toys! :)

I'm still trying to understand.... the USA number on my title is the right number to i.d. it by? If so, it is a
different number than the registration number on the actual metal tag on the trailer itself. Should they
both be the same #? In other words, maybe the paperwork is not correct?

Really neat finding out that the brother to this one trailer I have is still out there - and better yet, is all the
way over in Italy! From the looks of the list compiled they are the only two side by side ones left in the
world that are known to be around today.... :o

the usa number on the data plate is the usa number of the vehicle. there's no frame number on those Converto's.

you have a trailer, a USA number on the data plate, and a USA number on the title.

if your data plate is correct to the trailer (original riveting), the number on the title might be a VIN assigned by your local DOT...in Italy, jeeps left behind and that worked for Army and Police corps until late '50ies were assigned, when released to civilians, a VIN that sometime was the very same frame number (Willys' or Ford 's), and sometime a brand new number assigned by DOT.
you have only "454348" on your title, or "USA 454348"?? ...maybe a former owner painted this number instead... who knows?

On the title it actually says USA then the number....

Title was done in early 1960's.

Man I got the trailer from was the second owner after the military. First owner was
a small gas station owner.

I suppose I'll simply use the title as it is and paint the number on it someday!

Sorry for creating any confusion folks...

Converto Number One that I own... has no data plate, no painted numbers, and no title or registration paperwork

Converto Number Two " " ..has both a data plate and a Pennsylvania Dept. of Motor Vehicles Title from the
early 1960's. The USA number is on the paper title while the data plate shows the other number. Since I knew everyone
talking about Convertos was referring to the USA numbers I wondered if what was on the paperwork was the right number and if the registration number ON the data plate meant something else.

Thanks for all of your interest and responses!
