Hello everyone !!
I am buying a Ben Hur K-WT Jan. 1945
Recess, faucets, pump, strainers absent..
It apparently has a compartmentalized aluminum tank. Is it WW2?
Also, the aluminum tank has the oval parts of the ends which are welded as on the steel tank.
Last, tank bolted and not welded to the frame
What do you think? Original US war time?
I need expert advice.
Then, if anyone has a pump or faucets for sale...
Thanks a lot !!

Re: Help identification Ben Hur K-WT Water Buffalo
I have a 1945 Springfield Auto Works G-527, 250-gallon U.S. Army WWII water trailer with the aluminum tank. The ends are welded on and the tank is bolted to the frame. My tank does not have the compartmental dividers inside. My guess is that with the different manufacturers during the war, there were slight differences in the tank designs.
Good luck with the restoration. I will keep an eye out for parts for you.

The trailer looks very good! Very hard parts to find now-a-days but they are out there. I hope you gets your completed!

The corner pockets are I believe for stakes to support a shade cover. I also believe they are a later edition. I cannot recall right now where I saw that information. I don't have a wartime SNL for a water trailer, but the 1943 TM 9-883 does not show the corner pockets.

Re: Help identification Ben Hur K-WT Water Buffalo
I will let the experts chime in, but I believe the corner pockets are indeed for the supports of a canvas cover to disguise the trailer but to make it look like a regular cargo trailer, instead of a more desirable, in the eyes of the enemy, target...a water tank trailer. Certainly would also shade the tank, although I don't believe I've ever seen that setup in a picture. Would look great with the canvas erected with all four sides rolled up.
