M5 Bomb Trailer in Northern California

Post by John Neuenburg » Tue Mar 03, 2020 12:22 pm

A friend has a M5 bomb trailer and is wondering its value prior to offering for sale. Older restoration. These are approximate 17' long, 7' 4" wide, 2,200 pounds. 5,000 pound payload and supposedly will tow at 45 mph.

If anybody has a feel for this, email me and I will forward info to the owner.

When I first saw this I thought what a cool way for a military truck to tow a jeep in a parade. Or some distinguished VIPs in a parade sitting in chairs.

In Europe this incomplete and partly not Original M5 would fetch US $ 1500/2000.
As M6 trucks are rather rare, M5 trailers are not that much in demand…..
Unfortunately the data plate has been painted: this also could be a M2 Chemical Warfare Trailer.

The metal "flaps" on top of the storage box, the metal bars on the side of the chassis, as well as the storag box itself are not Original.
The originbal storage box is wider than the one on the picture: normally the handbrake handle is positioned nect to the deck and not through the deck.
The rims do not look to be original.
Curious to know what the data plate says………..if it is a M2 Chemical Warfare trailer it is rarer than a M5.

The box and parking brake are like this one in the air force museum in Dayton.

I'll find out if the data plate shows any info. Maybe the owner can get a closeup picture.

Great picture John. Good you showed that, never seen before this configuration. We own two and all the pics we have showing these trailers during wartime in ETO are different from these two.
Is it possible a post war configuration?

Glad to learn every day…………

Thanks Prop Trailer

I’ve got 7 M5 bomb trailers available in Arizona

Of note: the wheels on the trailer pictured are on inside out. Should look like this:
