M6 Barrel Thread

Post by Andrew Rowe » Tue Mar 07, 2023 9:22 am

Has anyone ever worked out what the thread is and called on the end of a M6 Barrel for a 37mm. Is it "square buttress" type thread , and how many threads per inch? , Cheers Andrew.

It's an acme thread, 4 3/4"-2tpi for the breech threads.
Unless you're talking about the M3a1 barrels threaded for the muzzle break in which case I have no idea

Thanks for that, I now have a better understanding of this thread. Just out of interest, are there acme cutting tool bits available in the States , or I would guess these situations , you just grind up your own high speed steel cutter?, Cheers Andrew.

It actually appears to be Stub Acme thread, and yes 2tpi, have picked up a carbide insert for the job. Stub Acme is half the depth of Normal Acme threads.
