6 Pounder/57mm Antitank Gun Sight Mount

Post by SteveM8 » Mon Oct 31, 2022 6:20 am

I believe I found the correct sight mount for the early or British version of the 6 pounder AT gun? It is my understanding the US version of the gun used a different sight and mount for the M86 telescope. May I request your confirmation on what I have found? Thank you for your help.

There are two scopes and mounts for the US 57 mm ATG that I'm aware of. The M24 or M24A1 Mount with the M18 Scope and the later type the M63 Mount with a M69c Scope, which I have. My British Manuals call the Mount Mark 1 which looks like the M24 Mounts and scope is call M22c which looks like the M18 scope. They are probably the same. Your scope looks like an M18, I have no idea what it's mounted on.

An English chap was kind enough to point out that, "It's part of the Correctional sight, Stiffkey sight, for the 40mm Bofors. Made in the UK and Canada." One of the pictures for the 40mm Bofors on Wikipedia shows the sight. It is surplus to my requirements if any 40mm Bofors fan desires to add it to their collection.
