What is the correct paint color for Vietnam era 105 howitzer. Our Legion is getting one for a static display.

For Vietnam era I would use 24087, The gun was painted multiple shades since WWII, but 24087 is a Vietnam truck color which the motorpool could have used on her at anypoint in the period.

Now if you want a reliable WWII ordnance shade that you can touch up every couple of years VS having to track down the 24087 that fades in the sun after 2-3 years....
Go to the local True Value and buy some oil based "Cliff" it's about the same as 34087, a WWII vehicle shade and costs about $25 or less on sale and lasts years as an outside house paint should. Oil base ends up as glossy, if used with waterbase it leaves it flat. Ordnance was a gloss semi finish usually to prevent rust. I'd paint the breech ring silver, it would have been polished metal. U.S.Army on the outside of the trails.
Just a thought.

There are three different OD shades with the number 24087. Use the 1968-1975 shade available from Midwest Military in MN.
