WTB - M9 ATG and howitzer recoil mechanism tools and TM

Post by leadfarmer » Tue Jul 20, 2021 9:44 am

Want to buy...

Oil filling gun and any other related tools for servicing the M9 or M9A1 recoil mechanism of 1940's vintage found on the M5 3" ATG and the howitzers of that period.

Also looking for the TM applicable to servicing this recoil mechanism. I'm not sure if it even exists. The TMs for the guns seem to punt disassembly and service, beyond adjusting the oil level, back to the manufacturer.

Since the M5 used the same carriage and recoil system (and breech ring) as the M2A1 Howitzer (after 1962, called the M101) 105mm gun, this would be the TM set to seek I think.
The M101 series was still in service into the 90's maybe 2000's with some units due to it's flexibility, so manuals from Vietnam would still have photos in them. TM's in the -20 series would be best, with -30 or -40 level in the depot level stuff.

the -12 in .PDf form (no nice pics like Vietnam era)

Hunt around with "Technical Manual 9-1015-203 "

I did find and review TM 9-1015-203. I think you're right and I need to find the higher level TM's to have a chance of finding the information I'm looking for.

I'm not sure what the link is for you included in your response but it asked me for a password to access the link.

Look for "oil hose assembly B26930" and "Oil Pump M3". The latter shouldn't be to hard to acquire since it's still standard issue, the most recent TB that mentions it that I can find is from 2010.

Also TM 9-3007 might be useful

As well as TM 9-1015-203-12

IIRC Dustin Wing was selling nitrogen charging tools on gunbroker and the 1919 forums a while back. Might want to hit him up and see if he has any stuff left over
