I had to make a mold and injected polyurethane of the appropriate durometer to make replacement seals for the recoil rod of my 75mm pack howitzer. After a couple attempts and better technique, I was able to get some very good results. Of course the piston seal and the stuffing box seal are not the same size so two molds were needed. The old seal had a flat spot on the perimeter that prevented the seal from working when the hydraulic fluid was pumped up to operating pressure.
