Got M1 Aiming post today

Post by GaryD. » Thu Apr 12, 2018 5:56 pm

Got the aiming posts from Robin and they were good as he said.I want to think him again. My question is they came in a bag for two posts. When they put them on a gun like this did they have a bag for four posts at a time or did they cram four posts in two bags in the holders. They would fall out without a bag.

The original set up is one post in two halves per bag. So two bags required. Later, a new bag was introduced that takes a full set of two poles (four halves). This lasted for years and can still be found today in vinyl.

3 poles are used in practice. Two poles joined is your "far" point, and a single pole midway between gunsight and far poles. Alignment is achieved of all three of these items by looking through the sight, and then directional control is achieved, and firing data can be accurately measured. The fourth pole is likely to account for uneven terrain.
