M35A2, keeps frying battery terminals.
My M35 is having issues with the battery terminals getting fried. First time we thought it was because the batteries shifted and grounded against the battery door. The truck didn't have a battery box when we bought it, just a ratchet strap holding the batteries in place. My kid drove the truck and hit a bump and caused the batteries to shift thus grounding or so we thought. The batteries were cheap Walmart garbage anyway, so he replaced them with two Duralast group 65 batteries. I had replaced the jumper wire with a new piece of 2 ought with a couple marine type terminals, the type with the wingnuts. We now have a proper battery box installed. Anyway last night it happened again, only this time just the terminal on the positive side melted not the battery post. My son said the headlights dimmed them he heard a sizzling noise. He shut down the engine and let it sit for a minute, not realizing he fried the terminal. He tried to restart the engine and got only a clunk noise as he put it. Could the starter or starter solenoid have caused this? Maybe corroded wiring? That's as far as my thinking is taking me. I'm concerned that something will catch fire if we don't find out what the issue is. Any help or advice appreciated. Thanks.

The wing nut terminals may not have the surface area or tightness to handle the amps for that big starter. I think the cables should have soldered or swaged ends.
