Factory registration # stencils

Post by Thunderbird712 » Wed Jun 22, 2022 9:34 am

I have available the correct factory GMC/Chevy font in vinyl paint mask stencil sets. This is the correct font for CCKWs and is available in the early 4" and later 2" size. $35 plus shipping for the hood stencil and another $10 for the third stencil that goes on the tail gate or rear of the truck. Radio suppression S is included if applicable.

For the motorpool guys, I have a font traced from a WWII stenciling kit. $35 plus shipping for the hood stencil in the vinyl paint mask. This font is frequently seen in period photos. I also do unit markings for the bumper and bumperettes using this font on vehicles and trailers. Full set of unit markings is $30 plus shipping in the vinyl paint mask. I also offer the stencil in a oil board/card stock. Using the oil board/card stock will give you the more authentic look with overspray. Essentially the "messy" look. Discounted price for card stock stencils. Ask for pricing if interested. I will also do a package deal if ordering both the hood stencils and unit markings. At this time, I cannot do the large invasion hood stars.

Lately, I have had issues with getting email notifications informing me I have a PM on the forum. My email address is available in my profile. I prefer email but if you send me a PM here I am not ignoring you if I don't get right back to you. I will make sure to check here often. Also if your interested in a factory font for another 2 1/2 ton or larger truck or even other custom stencils I can help. Send me a message and I will work with you to create what you want!

Hello TJ,

Those stencils look great !!
I have a December 1941 GMC 353 CCKW that I would like to get a set of U.S.A. numbers for the hood restoration.
It has smaller white numbers on it now, that "look" original.
They are a 2 inch font.

Do you know when they went from the big blue numbers, to the smaller white numbers ?
I like both designs, but want to put the truck back to what is there or correct.

My friend in France also has on his early CCKW , the smaller white numbers in the same font, so maybe these were factory applied ?

Here are some pictures :
The U.S.A. number is 467242.

Let me know what you think of the GMC fonts on my truck, and if you have these type ?
Thanks !
Also if you know, whether or not this truck once had the big blue numbers ?

Ray

Ray,

For your 1941 CCKW the 4" letters and numbers are correct. The white numbers you see are not factory applied. I am away from my reference material but I believe you should have a set on the tail gate as well. I will PM you my email address and we can go from there.

Regarding the switch to 2" letters and numbers, I believe it was around May/June 1943. I'm not sure the switch to white was ever done but I need to look into that again. Been awhile since I have.

Hello T.J.,

Well that is interesting, I like both sets.
The bed that I have, and plan to use on the truck is a late 1945 type.
I wish I had a 1941 model bed !

So maybe go with the big 4 inch set, and I paint them white, as a compromise .

As seen in the ETO when the larger numbers were used everywhere on vehicles, many times over the smaller sets, especially in jeeps.

These 2 inch numbers on this truck maybe were applied on the hood during a rebuild, as they are a perfect font and spacing, made from a cut stencil.

Does that hood number sound correct to be from 1941 ?

I will order a full 3 location set.

I will send you my info and how to get you paid.

They look great !!

Thanks !

Best Regards,
Ray
