We have an M547A3 here in the yard, so they are similar vehicles, yours having a slightly longer reach boom with the M62:
For a Mil Vehicle collector, 10K
For a real towing Business, maybe 4K
What I've seen advertised 15-20K when refreshed
Points:
- It may have been born in 55, but it's upgraded to Deisel with multifuel, likely in the 60's and maintained until the 90's in service. (Look for rebuild dataplates on engine and maybe door sill)
- It is Slow as crap when pulling out, i.e. 0 -35mph in about 30 seconds slow...(weighs a lot)
- You have to manually pull the outriggers out and down...not real fast or for weak of back (us old guys).
- Useful around a farm or shop, but battery upkeep is a pain as with any 24V M series (install a cutoff switch)
Maintenance is not hard, but bigger parts for everything, the 11:00 x 20" tires are about as tall as a jeep.
- Diesel is now sky high, so not a long road trip with a Multifuel
Why it's not good for towing business, is that the newer wreckers have such superior hydraulics, reliability and speed, it would not be profitable to maintain for a business model. Might get used once in a while for a severe terrain recovery, but is that their business...
Positive perks:
- It can be driven without a CDL if your not using it as a Commercial vehicle, i.e. not for profit, private use (check your state).
- It can be registered as an antique and reduce your costs of both registration, taxes and insurance.
- It's one of the most impressive vehicles to roll into an event when displayed with all the parts.
- Useful if you do Armor restoration (barely lifted the turret onto our Sherman), the reach made the front wheels come off the ground, but it was accomplished.
-Can pull like a Tank...(literally, see the Vid below 40 seconds in)

Re: What's it worth? 1955 5 ton Army Wrecker Diesel Mack everything works
Thank you very much W.Winget for your expert experience on this vehicle. It belongs to a friend of mind who is not a member on g503. He is planning on selling this but needs a ball park price. Again thank you for taking time out of your day and giving us the load down on this truck.

Good luck on your sales. I just sold mine and struggled to get $6000 out of it. Yours does appear to be in a little better shape but the market just doesn't seem to be there for them like it used to.
