WTB Bendix Type 3 Hydrovac Repair Kit

Post by johnseidts » Wed Dec 29, 2021 5:41 pm

I want to purchase a repair kit for my CCKW Bendix Type 3 Hyrdrovac. Parts numbers (even old ones) would be helpful. Thanks.

Hello,

I think that some parts kits are available in Europe, France. But might not be 100 percent good anymore.

I do think you can buy rebuilt type 3 hydovacs through Summit.
Cardone sells a rebuilt unit.
At least they did 2 years ago.
I ordered 3 for my friend in France,
He said they would work on the CCKW.
I also heard you can order them through many auto parts stores, they just take some time to get delivered. The ones I got were delayed some as it was at the beginning of the China virus outbreak.

Maybe check online and see what can be found.

Good Luck,
Ray

Try Karp's Power Brake, in Southern Cal, now in Chino. http://www.karpspb.com/

Years ago they rebuilt the Type 3 in my M20 armored car. Then the thing stopped like a six-legged cat. But brakes would stick a little after coming to a stop. Then I found out systems don't like two check valves. This vac has one, unlike the Type 2 that my MC with valve was designed to work with. Pulled that out and it was all sunshine and lollipops.

Tell them where you are and a past customer of theirs referred you. Maybe they will sell just the parts.

BTW they also do stainless steel sleeving of wheel cylinders. 8)

I have several NOS type III Hydrovacs in my parts pile. Several of them have a warning/reminder label on them advising people that the type III has an internal check valve inside of it. If you are changing over to a type three, as John found, you need to remove the check valve from your master cylinder. I have met several people that have failed to take this step. Not removing the extra check valve can result in brakes locking up. I was a passenger in a CCKW tipper several years ago when the left rear brake locked up during a long road trip. A vehicle behind the tipper noticed the smoke coming from the locked drum. Just barely avoided a fire that day. I discovered the problem when I helped replace the master cylinder. My advice is to stop looking for a parts kit and have your Hydrovac rebuilt by one of the many brake companies that still do this work. You do not want to be standing there holding the leaky bag of poop when the rebuild that you did fails and your big hobby vehicle damages something or someone.

Despite having done the test on my hydrovac and finding that it is not working my mechanic told me that if the brake pedal is not so heavy it is because the hidrovac is working.

Hi guys. Today my mechanic solved the problem of my truck's wheels locking. He acted by moving back the stop screw that is behind the master cylinder lever. With this the master cylinder piston can go back further in the system return releasing the return hole and causing the wheels to no longer lock up.
