CCKW S/N Year

Post by D6c » Wed Jun 09, 2021 10:38 am

Was wondering if anyone can confirm the year of mfg. for my CCKW-353 closed cab?
S/n is 185195-2
From what little I can find, would that make it a later '42 model?

Thanks

Hello D6c,

Yes you do have a 1942 GMC CCKW truck .
Please post a picture or more 😁😁
I base that on other trucks in your range that are dated on the cckw database at cckw.org.
My friend and G member Thierry B, had one close to your serial number at 187063. It is a closed cab, and a 1942 cargo truck.

Here is some addition info about your serial number, that someone else has, with 2, and no letter on the end before it.

It seems that the cckw website is not as active as it once was, I hope it gets more active, as it is an incredible information site.

Best Regards,
Ray

Mine is a long way off from being finished. Down to bare frame and has been sitting for quite a while taking up space in my shop. I've recently been trying to source some of the parts I'm missing.
What prompted my question about the year is that I'm applying for a bonded title. I bought it in Colorado years ago, have a sales recipt, and even the Gov't issued certificate when they bought it surplus in 1963.....but never received a title.
It shouldn't be too much hassle getting a title. Certainly seems to be easier and faster than it was years ago, which is why I never got it done before.

Hello,

I am glad that another CCKW restoration is under way !!!
There have been so few GMC restorations getting done, or at least mentioned here on the great G !!!
It is time 😁😁😁😁😁😁

These are such unique and beautiful trucks, and the sound can't be beat when running !

I will be able to get my GMC picked up in September in Kansas. It has a title which is a great thing.

I have started a post for her here on the G.
I have many parts that I will need to source, like a winch and the frame extensions. I thought I saw that package for sale , but I can't seem to locate where I saw it online.
My truck is a 1941 model, and I am looking forward to getting it restored.
You are on the way now, try to get a little done everyday you have some time. Pretty soon it starts getting to look like it is almost done.
Then you get it done 😁😁

It is great that you have some history on your truck !!
Getting a title with all that original paperwork should be no problem in my opinion, if you have a friendly dmv there. If you run into obstacles, go to a different one , and get an older worker who knows the system and process.

Keep us posted on your restoration !!
Make a post on it, so you can keep everyone updated as we all love seeing restoration progress !!

Best Regards,
Ray
