no worries, theres no rush as we're making other sizes at them moment anyway. we usually match the specs to an original tyre.

I would imagine that a mold and tooling to produce a 14.00 x 24 tire would be astronomical for a limited production run.

Bodger Baz, what size tires are you producing and what is your basic process?

Dave,

Do you think that there would not be enough people out there looking for this type of tire for there military vehicles? And I know a lot of farm equipment used these tires as well, just trying to be forward here.

We currently make
600-16 and 7.50-20 in bar grip.
900-16 and 700-18 in track grip for British.
10.50-16 track grip on the way this year.

We design the moulds have them made to our own design, tyres can then be produced as and when, it’s not a cheap process but long term covers it’s cost.

14.00-24 is available in tractor and earth moving tread already.
It’s the bar grips that would be required for vehicles. We will put it out there and see what the response is, if there’s not the interest we won’t make them, if there’s a decent quantity required it can be done and once the mould is made batches can be made as and when required l, the first batch needs to be a decent number to cover costs.

What do you consider a decent number in order to proceed? You had mentioned 200 in an earlier thread. Is that what you would be looking at? I would think, depending on cost, that number would be achievable, but hard to get people to commit in advance.

As you mentioned earlier, for the US, they would need to be DOT approved.

I am not familiar with tire manufacturing, but as with anything, the startup cost is the most significant.

Would definitely be interested in someone making this happen as there is a demand, but no supply.

DOT approval would be a problem I fear, will have chat with the manufacturer and see what they recommend.
We have shipped tyres into the US before as “off highway” tyres without any problems.

Anyway it’s an Avenue we shall investigate.

Well I will stay out of this conversation for the mean time, I will let what ever happens happen here, I am not going to get in the way of another business man wanting to make some money here. I was going to do some research here in the US as far as the NDT goes but if he has the better plan then follow his plans.

We’re not trying to takeover the world of tyres, but may be able to help out in areas where there is nothing available worldwide, and we’re definitely not in this for a quick profit because its a terrible business model .
We have taken on the tyre projects to plug known gaps in the restoration world, and in particular vehicles that deserve the correct style of tyres.
if there is another option please share it as it would be crazy to make something if it’s already available.

If there’s not the interest, we won’t make them but if we can help out owners of these special vehicles then it’s a project to be completed.

On the DOT question, the manufacturer currently makes and sells DOT approved tyres for the US market so it shouldn’t be an issue.

We should have an idea of costs on the next few weeks, we’re also talking to owners in Europe who need the same tyres. If it does happen we would be looking at production next year anyway due to other tyre projects already in the making.

That sounds great. Since you have a contact who has experience and can do this, it seems like you are the main person to get it done.

I am interested in what the manufacturer has to say. Keep us posted.

As I said earlier I'm very much looking forward to the possibility of buying new 1400 x 24 tire's... I have started a restoration on my M125 and would love to go back together with new tire's on it and the time line of being a year out fit's me perfect.
