Tarp tie hook identification help needed

Post by forestry4evr » Sun Jun 30, 2019 6:55 am

Hey all,

Got some tarp tie hooks that I cant identify, perhaps they were from a larger truck. Please help. Both versions are about 4 inches in length. Mounting holes are not the same between the two.

Early production WC's with all steel beds and early CCKW's with all steel beds used the longer style of cast tie down hook. The one in the upper post.
No doubt there were many other vehicles used them also.
Later vehicles used the pressed steel hooks.
The shorter hook I am not familiar with but may have seen them on trailers.

Identical to those I will eventually have to make 8ea, for the Liberty Truck restoration as well.
I know the 1/2WC and trailers took them for the bed. Often they are seen with a twist to them as well.

Thanks for the bits of intel guys. Below are some more images that hopefully will get me to a positive identification.

The hook at the bottom of your most recent photo is the type that was used on the T-211 and T-215 WC 1/2 ton pick-up beds. Early production T-207 WC pick-up beds had the closed loop set up. By the way, DCM sells the open type hooks as used on the above mentioned trucks. Kind of pricey, but the option is there if you cannot find OEM used ones off of wrecked beds.

Here's the WWI Standard B truck hooks for reference, there were many manufacturers, and I've seen restorations with left and right hooks on the tailgate, but after 100 years, some may have been replaced or twisted with time. Originals appear to be straight, with rounded bottom fairly even in base thickness, not beveled.
