Hi Ben,
Do you have or know where I can find some photos of the truck? Thanks.

Ironically, a CCKW ultimately led to his death as well.... 73 years ago next month.

Hard to believe that it's been 73 years already I mean time really flies here when it comes to the history of this country and there is hardly anyone that knows what this means anymore for they are not teaching this is schools anymore...

Yes, and his death was at best a tragedy and at worst a conspiracy IMHO.

What is the conspiracy about what happened? I mean I thought it was just an freak accident that happened to him...

Find the book “Target Patton” written by Military historian Robert Wilcox. It will give you a different perspective from the “Official” story surrounding his death. It’s a good read and leaves you really questioning his death.

Hi RedArrow2016,
If you get a chance, pickup a copy of "Killing Patton" by Bill O'Reilly.
Despite the name of the book, 95% of it is really about Patton's life and army career, leaving maybe 5% to cover the alledged conspiricy to have him killed. That aside, it is still an excellant read. There is an especially good part about the meeting Patton attended with Generals Eisenhower, Bradley, and others on Dec. 19, 1944, which was hastily called by the allied commanders in response to the German offensive. Patton's intelligence section had been one of the only organizations in the ETO to realize what was really going on, so while everyone else was caught totally off guard, he attended the meeting with three major counter attack plans already in the works.
The conspiracy part provides the basis for a number of theories related to his death being intentional as opposed to accidental. Potential perpetrators included Stalin, Bill Donavan of the OSS, and others who shared a dislike for the general.
I will let the reader come to his or her own conclusions, but I think it is worthy to note that a lot of GIs in the ETO at that time were either killed or seriously injured in vehicular related accidents. 101st Airborn Pvt. David Webster in his book "Parachute Infantry" talked about evey GI in his post-war unit having their own personal vehicle - many commandeered from the local German population. Add boredom and alchohol to this situation, and it is no surprise that accidents would be a fairly common occurrence.
Best Regards...

Hi Dozerman51,
Have been meaning to pickup "Target Patton". Will have to swing by the bookstore this weekend and grab a copy.
Did you read "Killing Patton". If you did, just wondered how you thought the two compared.
Best Regards.....

Hope you guys have a nice Thanksgiving. Yes, I have read “Killing Patton” and I enjoyed reading it a lot. It did not go into as much detail about the car/truck collision and aftermath as the “Target Patton” book.
