In 1985, the French Army got rid of the last 5,000 CCKWs in their army in France. Nobody want them as they were gasoline powered. The cargo body on my 43 CCKW was on the junk pile and I had it shipped back on the back of a CCKW that a friend had bought there in 1989
We gave them thousands after ww2. Remember that they were destitute after the war and when they went back to Vietnam, they tried to reinstate themselves using US equipment.

Supreme Surplus ordered a number of WC Third Members for me from a dealer in France back in 85, the dealer threw them loose in a nice CCKW SWB Steel Cargo Body and loaded it into the container.
In the USA, the Gov't was still printing bulletins and manuals for CCKW Shop Vans into the mid 50's, but was quick to update with G-742 and G-749 series vehicles with shop equipment upon availibility.

Was that friend George Mainieri? I have a couple pics of his CCKW tipper in 1989 with a couple extra beds stacked on. The dealer in Holland he bought the truck from had beds in a giant scrap pile. Someone on the trip video taped a tour of the yard; there were a ton of CCKWs and some nice ones being cut up, wooden beds burned, etc.Dr Deuce wrote: ↑Tue Nov 13, 2018 7:50 amIn 1985, the French Army got rid of the last 5,000 CCKWs in their army in France.
