WORKING ON THE LARGER TRUCKS
The larger 50's-60's M-Series 6X6 trucks were both fun to drive, especially the 5-Ton with Heaters, Power Steering, adjustable seats, and easier to work on, you could open the hood way up and sit on the engine while doing a tune up. The 200+ horsepower Continental R-6602 Gas Engine had all the power it needed and all you had to aim it and it went. There's nothing like standing Reveille, doing a little PT , heading to the mess hall and listening to the base come alive with Jeeps, 3/4 Tons, 2-1/2 and 5-Tons. The 5 Tons had a signature screech to the governor that just added to the symphony of familiar GI sounds on an active base.
